Fairies Die Hard

Fairies

I believed in fairies
Long after other girls
Were experiencing the joys
Of writing on bathroom walls.

One by one, I lost them,
Yet, those sudden flickers,
Seen and not seen,
Tell me that fairies die hard.

Note:

My mother wrote this poem. She introduced me to poetry when I was very young, and I thought it would be nice to include one of her poems in A Light Beyond the Hedge.

These are scary times. Prepare yourself to take a stand for what is right. God damn it, just be kind!
