When Nancy Lived on Chestnut Street

Victorian House

When Nancy lived on Chestnut Street
There was always someone new to meet;
Six cats to greet you at the door,
And wicker baskets on the floor.

On the outside stairs, a cake would cool,
Angel food, or macaroon,
Each visit was indeed a treat
When Nancy lived on Chestnut Street.

There were birds in cages, and dogs to tease,
And you could sit just where you pleased.
Lush plants grew on every sill,
Each one with its own anthill.

Now Nancy has another house,
And all her cats catch every mouse.
But life seemed somehow very sweet
When Nancy lived on Chestnut Street.
