The Draftsman

The Smile

I miss my grandfather.
He was a draftsman who rendered the beginnings
Of the tiniest motor pieces onto blueprints.
From what I’ve heard, he designed parts for the
Gemini Space Program – probably little coils, or wheels,
Nothing glamorous,
Just enough to launch a rocket.

These are scary times. Prepare yourself to take a stand for what is right. God damn it, just be kind!

  1. the last line
    makes a tightness
at the corners of my mouth
    the edges both rising
    toward the sky
and a twinkle in my eye
