On the FDR

Southbound on the FDR
Just after sunset,

In the 80s
The sky over Queens
Is smudged with red
and gold.

The city lights come up,
Somewhere in the 60s,
And the Queensboro Bridge
Is draped in diamonds.

Suddenly, as if on cue,
American Rhapsody winds
Out of the car radio,
And my heart soars.

By the time I reach the Battery
Night has settled in.

These are scary times. Prepare yourself to take a stand for what is right. God damn it, just be kind!
