Second Chance

The Room

I

slept in this room
for five nights
while leads

and monitors
measuredheartbeats
and breaths

and june bugs
beat against the glass
with all their hearts.

in the end
we went home
with the opportunity

to dream again,
to really dream
in our rumpled

sweaty sheets
unconcerned
about what passed us –

as the distant
trains rumbled
along the tidewater

These are scary times. Prepare yourself to take a stand for what is right. God damn it, just be kind!

  1. This is really beautiful! Another great observation that only you, the master poet, can tell. Bravo! Your vision is a gift from the Almighty.
